running.

So apparently, I’m a runner.  Never would have predicted that one.  One day in January 2007 when everyone was still reeling from their newly-minted New Year’s Resolutions, I got this crazy idea that I would run with Caleb after one of our strength work-outs.   He got me to run a mile at what was probably an embarrassingly slow pace, and it seemed to last forever, but he was so encouraging both during and after that I figured I’d give it a few more tries.  Those tries morphed into running my first 5K in March 2007.  My time was 32:59, which was awesome, because my training runs had been at 36 minutes.  It was an awesome experience, but I dropped my training after the race as a “reward” which turned into me going an entire year without running another 5K.  Well, I did my second 5K in March 2008 on the same course (Atlanta Women’s 5K in Candler Park), and despite having completely derailed my training schedule, I was able to make my goal of sub-30: 29:55.  I did my 3rd 5K on April 25 at 26:38.  The time would have been better if I had paced myself appropriately and hadn’t ran to first mile at an 8:30 pace–oops.  Anyways, the next goal is the Richmond  Half Marathon in November. (!!!!)  I not currently planning on actually running the entire 13 miles, just completing it, but we’ll see.  The training for that starts four months out, so in the mean time, I am running for fun and cross training by spinning and weight-training.

Running Links I Use:

Runner’s World - good for pace and training calculators

Active.com - good for finding races and athletic events of all types

Running in the USA – good for finding races that aren’t on Active

  1. Hey Linds!

I remember Caleb talking about building a social networking site for runners. I don’t know, but Reebok might have beat him to the punch. check out the site below. Miss you!
