Who is this chick?
In a 10th grade parent-teacher conference, my English teacher pulled my mom aside and said “Lindsay’s great, but don’t you think she’s, well . . . a bit much?“ That’s me. A bit much and damn proud of it.
More specifically, I am a PhD student in School Psychology with a minor in Statistics at the University of Georgia (I also have a BA and MA in Psychology from Wake Forest University). I live with my fantabulous husband and two adorable lab mixes in a great house in the Athens, GA countryside. I love paper crafting, cooking with local produce, Unitarian Universalism, brewing beer with my husband, equal rights, musical theater, science, board games, and intellectually-stimulating discussion. I am also outgoing, opinionated, strangely talented at studying for things, and very, very silly.
And what is she writing about?
Examination of Google Searches that send people to my blog indicates that a lot of you are looking for information on either UFOs or on proving that evolution isn’t real. Sorry. I like science a whole lot, so you’ll find none of that here. But here’s what you will find:
1. Evolution. I like all types of evolution, but the type I am referring to here is the evolution of thought and belief. As in, you get a new thought (i.e., mutation), and through experience, you decide if it suits you or not.
2. Pseudoscience. I am {working on becoming} an academic psychologist. For years, people have derided psychology for being pseudoscientific. I completely disagree with that sentiment, so my reference to psychology as pseudoscience is wholly tongue-in-cheek.
3. Evolution of Pseudoscience. Basically, I’m interested in the evolution of my own psychology (my thoughts, attitudes, beliefs, behaviors, hobbies, etc.) and in the evolution of psychology as a discipline (my experiences as a grad student in and teacher of psychology).
So, no martians or intelligent design here, but plenty of musings on liberal religion, homemade yumminess, {failed} attempts at green-ness, social equality, sassy greeting cards, people who annoy me, assorted craftiness of the sewing, painting, and pasting variety, the perils of graduate school, the meaning of life and the like.
And what does she look like?
This is me: And this is me and my husband:

And these are our dogs:
